In Idaho, surveys indicate some youth binge drink in the sixth grade, and a few may even start earlier. Parent’s disapproval of youthful alcohol use is the key reason children choose not to drink. Get informed and involved. Don’t just talk to your kids; let your actions show them you really care. Keep up to date with local and state-wide organizations, campaigns, and events.

5th Annual Sun Valley Road Rally Fund

    Jul 26, 2013

2012 Sun Valley Road Rally- another giant success with VIP guest Johnny Unser hosting the rally and new speed record set by local driver!

The 2012 Sun Valley Road Rally, Blaine County Community Drug Coalition's annual fundraiser, was a weekend of fast and beautiful cars as well as camaraderie among car buffs across Idaho.
On Highway 75 north of Ketchum, Idaho lies a 3.2-mile section of highway with a soft, banked 90-degree gentle slope-climbing corner, followed by a straight downhill. This is the perfect stretch for a car to pick up the right amount of speed for the right duration; almost like Highway 75 was built specifically to suit the Sun Valley Road Rally.

What started out to be an idea among car buddies turned into a premier event, not just in the Wood River Valley, but in the West. It has grown substantially since its first year in 2009 when there were only twelve cars entered. This July, the event sold out with a maximum of sixty runs. The event runs five heats of twelve drivers at a time, with each driver starting 90 seconds behind the lead driver.

Legendary racer Johnny Unser was honored as a VIP. This year, Unser drove a 2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo at 188.3 mph.

If gazing at cool cars while swapping automotive tales with interesting people is more your thing, there is no better place to be than the Ketchum Cruise. From 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., the City of Ketchum came alive with the roar of hotrods and custom vehicles. The addition of this event in 2012, allowed the fundraiser to grow from a two component event to a three component event: a cruise, rally and gala dinner to close the weekend events.

Almost everyone was a winner at the Sun Valley Road Rally. Ketchum Cruise trophies were awarded including "Grand Prize", "Best Foreign Car", and "Best Domestic Car" and a trophy was awarded to the driver with the fastest speed from the rally event. This year Twin Falls, Idaho driver Bob Shillington set a new Sun Valley Road Rally speed record pushing his black 2008 Porsche GT2 to 198.4 mph.

The Blaine County Community Drug Coalition looks forward to celebrating its Fifth Annual Sun Valley Road Rally fundraiser in 2013, and anticipates it will grow until it rivals any other small, intimate open race track event in the country.

Save the date for next year's rally scheduled for July 26-27, 2013. For more information about this fundraiser, please go to or call 208 578-5465.
